"My perception of homelessness to this point has been defined by what I had read or heard in the news. Nicholas House shatters preconceived notions and changes perceptions. It is hard to reconcile whole families, some multi-generational, being without a house or a place to call home. Nicholas House impressed me with their mission to not only house these families, but also to provide childcare, education, support with employment, etc. They work on a shoestring budget, low overhead and a strong mission to get people into their own homes. Our group went in with a sense of purpose and it was good to see everyone pitch in and work hand-in-hand to serve the residents. Whether putting the food together, serving, cleaning up or just having conversations with the residents, each RentPath participant showed that they truly cared. RentPath is doing a tremendous service, not just in providing food, but opening the eyes of its employees to the issue of homelessness."
"I am so thankful to have had an opportunity to visit Nicholas House. When I got there, I just stood back and observed the home atmosphere. When the families came in, I carefully watched how they interacted with one another and then later with the crew. The crew was great. We all just wanted to help and give them our undivided attention. I have been to a Shelter, but I raised three sons and a daughter without a father. I have given back to families in different counties. I have always worked with underprivileged children. I have always wanted to own a facility to save our children and build character and help them find their way in this world and to be good to themselves under any circumstances and that will be given back. I notice there were more mothers there with boys, that disturbed me. I observed so much, that I cannot write about."
